Diversity Between Mediterranean, Exotic, and Wild Nature
The Nerezine Garden will be a place of rich plant diversity—shaped by its unique location between mountain and sea, sun and wind, stone and soil. Even now, the selection of future plants is a central element of our concept.
We aim to bring together specific categories of plants that harmonize both aesthetically and ecologically—while reflecting the history, climate, and spirit of Lošinj.
Mediterranean Classics
Hardy, fragrant, and full of character—these plants form the backbone of our garden.
Examples: Olive tree, fig tree, lavender, rosemary, rockrose, bay laurel.
Exotics and Botanical Rarities
They add color, shape, and a touch of wanderlust—plants rarely seen in a classic Mediterranean garden but well suited to Lošinj’s climate.
Examples: Bougainvillea, banana plants (Musa basjoo), palms (e.g., Chamaerops humilis, Phoenix theophrasti), agaves, aloe.
Vative and Wild Species
We want to preserve and promote the island’s original character. Wild herbs, shrubs, and pioneer plants are intentionally given space in the garden.
Examples: Mastic shrub, strawberry tree, wild thyme, spurge, wild asparagus.
Plants for Shade, Water, and Transitions
In sheltered areas, by water features, or under pergolas, we plan plants that bring freshness and tranquility.
Examples: Ferns, irises, papyrus grass, mallows, plumbago.
Scented and Colorful Plants for the Senses
Flowering, aromatic plants that attract insects and shape the garden’s seasonal appearance.
Examples: Fragrant roses, jasmine, sage varieties, nasturtium, lantana.
